The year 2010 is gradually coming to an end. As individuals we have dreams, goals and desire which we were able to actualise and there are more things we need to realise in terms of our growth and personal development. Some people have the ability to dream and turn their dream into reality of on form or another. However, some people will need coaches or mentors to help them to realise their dream.
In this article I’m going to describe the P.R.I.D.E model of coaching and how you could use it to facilitate you’re your journey in self development.
First I will describe what the acronym means and how to apply it to as a model for coaching. In her book “Learn to .Coach” Nicola Stevens describes coaching as a relationship that is designed in such a way as to enhance the process of lifelong learning, effectiveness and fulfilment.
The PRIDE Model of coaching
The table below show the different attributes or elements of the PRIDE model of coaching.
Table 1: PRIDE coaching model
It is made of five stages namely, purpose, reality, ideas, decide and execute leading to realisation of a desired goal. Th second section will describe the different questions and strategies for the implementation of the PRIDE framework.
Table 2 Components of PRIDE model of coaching plus the important questions
What is the higher purpose of resolving this matter?
What is the ultimate reason for doing this activity?
What is the outcome that you want?
What are your goals?
What is happening now?
Describe what you see, hear, and feel now?
What is working/
What is not working?
How big or small is the issue?
What is the scale?
Where does this happen, when, and who is involved?
Come up with at least three different ideas for how you could deal with if you were resolving it.
This require skill in idea generation using brainstorming
4. Do nothing
Evaluate what these different ideas could give you.
Which one (or combination) will meet your higher purpose the best?
What wil serve you best and what wil be the outcome?
Execute your plan. Imagine the first step you are going to take. What specifically will you do to get the ball rolling?
Can you imagine having the commitment to do this, the enthusiasm and the motivation to see to through? If not, what does it need? You should not allow fear, obstacles and consideration to sap your execution zeal and energy. Set your heart to accomplish your goal.
